Mayor Kenney Pardons Wawa Gobbler

Mayor Jim Kenney spared the life of a Wawa Turkey Gobbler on Thanksgiving morning, continuing a long Philadelphia tradition.

The hoagie, named Order Number 268, was on a classic 10-inch roll and included all the Thanksgiving favorites: turkey, gravy, stuffing, and cranberry sauce. Kenney pardoned it as part of the opening ceremonies of the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Many in the greater Philadelphia region wait all year to get their hands on a Gobbler, and Kenney echoed this sentiment in a mouth-watering speech which listed all the sandwich’s ingredients.

“Philadelphia is a city of compassion and empathy,” he said, as he lifted the dripping sandwich for the crowd to see, “and this hoagie will live to see another day.”

Sources within the administration, however, say that Kenney is partial to Primo Hoagies.
