Councilman Mark Squilla Drops New Album

Mark Squilla announced  the release of his debut EP called “District 1” this morning on his official Facebook page. The post included a link to his Bandcamp site, which allows users to download the album at a “name your price” rate.

The surprise album release came just days after Squilla received overwhelming backlash on social media for a bill he sponsored in Philadelphia’s City Council. The bill would require all bands, DJs, and other performers to provide their personal contact information to the local police department.

“It’s hard for artists to book gigs when they’re new to the scene in Philly,” Squilla explained. When asked whether the bill might be a way of him trying to book his own gig by denying permits to other musicians, the Councilman blushed and quickly looked away. “No,” he whispered.

Local musicians were quick to react to the album. “Holy heck, this is surprisingly good,” said a tweet from the band Cayetana.

Sources inside the Councilman’s office claim that he is also hoping to shoot a music video in the next month, and asks that if you have any nieces or nephews who are film majors, please have them call Squilla’s office to set up a meeting.
