New Crowdsourcing Haircut App

Crowdsourcing has revolutionized industries ranging from entertainment to transportation, and now it’s giving a makeover to another age-old industry—hairstyling. Starting this summer you will be able to crowdsource your hairdo with a new app called QueueMyDo.

The app’s founder, John J.J. Smith, says the idea came from a personal experience: “My friend asked me to give him a trim because he was getting a little shaggy in the back,” Smith explained, “but when he looked in the mirror, he said I ruined his hair. That was two years ago, and he hasn’t spoken to me since.”

QueueMyDo is designed for people who can’t afford a haircut, but don’t want to risk souring their friendships. Each strand of hair is assigned to a different contributor, so that no single person is to blame for the bad results. Smith used his experience in the aerospace navigation industry to create the hair coordinate system that makes this app a cut above the rest.

“As a former GNC engineer for Boeing, I have a lot of experience with global positioning systems, and I was able to create a hair coordinate protocol that is modeled after the UTM coordinate system. Paired with my hexadecimal hair naming system, every single strand of hair can be identified and located,” said Smith. He mentioned something fancy about trigonometry, too.

“This is one of the worst ideas I have ever heard,” said Dr. Bob Pompadour, who studies the hairstyle industry at the Wharton School of Business. “The average person has over 100,00 hairs. Does this company expect people to find 100,000 friends to cut their hair? They can’t be serious.”

Smith has persisted despite many similar critiques. “The hairstyle industry has been tangled in its old ways for too long,” he explained. “We need to comb through finer points of the industry and rinse ourselves of any old-fashioned ideas.”

QueueMyDo will be available for the iPhone this summer, starting at $30.
